INTRODUCTION
It will also give us the opportunity to enjoy the excellent fellowship of like-minded people. And if that’s not enough the routes we’re going to explore offer pure biking heaven.“It has to be an Adventure. It has to be a Festival. And it has to offer more choices!” So we consulted the experts, called in the specialists and considered our past, as well as our future, before our plans started taking shape. The name was changed from the “Annual BMW Bikers Gathering”, or “ABBG” to “The BMW Bike Fest”. This event has a long-standing tradition, originally organized by the BMW Clubs themselves and subsequently taken over by BMW.

The venue

When asked about the most popular events in the past, Oudtshoorn featured every time – no doubt because of the venue, the great routes and the good times people have had here. So it really was a no-brainer to return to the Klein Karoo for the inaugural BMW Bike Fest!

ACCOMMODATION

We have secured all guesthouses, hotels, backpackers, camp sites and lodges in the close vicinity of Kleinplaas (which is the centre of action), and are handling the bookings centrally, however, you are welcome to stay where you wish. There is truly something for every pocket! When you book, we will automatically sent you ALL THE DETAILS. Otherwise send an e-mail to bikefestbeds@gmails.com.

THE ROUTES

Rides will be scheduled daily with On- and Off-road options. The names just roll off the tongue when you start thinking about possibilities the area offers...

Dirt / Off-road options

“Die Hel”, or Gamkaskloof, the forgotten valley with a fascinating story, nestled in the Swartberge.

Montagu Pass, a scenic gravel pass between Oudtshoorn and George.

The famous Prince Alfred pass between Avontuur and the Knysna forest.

The remote Rooiberg pass between Calitzdorp and Vanwyksdorp.

The magical Groenfontein road – a beautiful dirt road between Oudtshoorn and Calitzdorp along the foothills of the Groot Swartberge.

Routes through the Kamanassie to Uniondale.

Lesser-known roads like the Vergenoegd and the Oudemuragie roads.

And then you could travel through Baviaanskloof on the way to the event or back (at your own risk, of course!)

Via Schoemanshoek to the Cango Caves at the foot of the Swartberg Pass.
