World exclusive: New BMW R1200GS engine spotted

These world exclusive spy shots show BMW's new 2010 R1200GS with the new double overhead cam (DOHC) engine first revealed in MCN on August 19.

From the pictures it appears there are no changes to the styling of the adventure bike apart from clear indicator lenses – the DOHC engine is the only major change.

Close inspection of the pictures – taken by a German spy photographer – shows the cylinderhead has two rather than four retaining bolts as seen on the current bike. The HP2 has two bolts.

De 2010 BMW R1200GS heeft ondanks veel speculaties in de pers slechts een paar motor modificaties ondergaan om te voldoen aan de Euro 4 emissie norm. Maar natuurlijk ook om competitief te blijven in de “toering avontuur” klasse. De R1200GS krijgt de DOHC cilinderkop van de BMW HP2 en een tweede bougie voor een meer efficiënte verbranding met gereduceerde emissie. Wat het meest opvalt, zijn het gebruik van twee cilinderkop bouten in plaats van vier stuks bij het vorige model. Dit alles resulteert in meer vermogen wat nu komt op 116,6 pk.
