Re: Nieuwe versie Bobcat 2.0.0.4
Hello,
Please find my concerns and remarks after exploring the introduction of beta version 2.0.0.4 of Bobcat for OSX.
Map products:
City Navigator Europe NT v9
US Basemap v2
City Navigator North America 2008
City Navigator Australia 2008
City Navigator Europe NT 2008
Processor Architecture:
Intel duo care on iMac 24 inch 2,4 ghz with 2gb ram.
- Duplicating routes.
It is still hard to duplicate routes. This is a very important feature to make routes identical when working with different versions of map content. For example when making tours for clubs or evenements for all Garmin users that have different gear and map data on their gps. When duplicating a route, one can load another map (f.e. version 8 or 9 instead of 2008) and lay the route on top of the original that has been made in another map version. In this case, recalculation results in differences that can be solved to make routes identical.
- Editing routes.
For the same reasons as described above, editing routes should (besides moving a routepoint) be possible by dragging a part of the route with the selection tool (as in Mapsource). This way, editing routes becomes a lot more easy to make routes identical to duplicated routes calculated in other map versions.
Further, I think evolving Bobcat to make it possible to join, edit, shorten or making routes longer would be nice to implement. Another hard thing to accomplish is moving the start- or endpoint of a certain route.
- Finding results.
When looking for an address, it is still hard to get the address. One has to know the exact address in order to get it in the list. It would be a lot easier to pull a list with the (for example) 50 closest results to a part of the data that has been put into the data field window. Now, the search engine starts but no output is displayed untill a complete match is found against the text that has been put into the entry window. Even with a part of the streetname f.e. it should be possible to get a list with possible choises.
- Colors.
It would be nice to have the possibility to assign different colors to tracks and routes. When duplicating them or even to make it easier to isolate them from other routes. This is especially functional when different routes run over the same streets. It would be a lot easier to identify and isolate a route umongst others. This can't be hard to implement.
- Detail.
Last, at this moment it is sometimes hard to discover certain POI's on the map. The grapical interface is a lot nicer compared to Mapsource but the disadvantage is that one has to zoom in to almost the maximum value to discover POI's on the map to be displayed. That counts for text to. Maybe a better solution would be to put switches inside Bobcat to let the user decide to view or not view the content of POI's. It would be nice to have a menu to select a catagory to be displayed or not (this helps the screen from overloading with additional data).
Thanks for taking my remarks into account. At this time, I, as a Mac-user, I'm very happy that anno 2008, I already can start using OSX Leopard as a native enviroment to use Garmin software. This helps a lot. I like to thank the developing team for all the efforts put into this project. I'm excited to see the first stable version to be announced on the Garmin website real soon.
Regards.
